My love hate relationship with elitism

Today I was randomly browsing through tumblr when I came across a blog written by an 8th grade girl on her way to Bayview in the next year.
Out of interest (mainly because she was entering Pre-IB), I looked through some of her posts.

Oh my god.

That girl is one of the biggest elitists I have ever encountered in the cyber world. Her post about getting accepted to IB was like...well
I was pretty angry.
I mean it's great that you made it, but holy moly woman. She bashed her best friend when she suggested that her acceptance email might have been a prank. I mean sure I would be a bit ruffled around the feathers too but I wouldn't actually INSULT HER SO OPENLY...on a public tumblr page at that. Come on, get some class and work that passive aggressiveness. It's lame when you name names.

And then her about page .... HER ABOUT PAGE. She called herself smart (or some not so creative synonyms of it) 2-3 times, making sure to cite her pre-IB Bayview status each time.

First of all, making it to IB at Bayview does NOT make you smart. In my year (which was the first year that did testing), I can easily give 5 people off the top of my head that have IQs that are not significantly above average (myself being one of them I bet you). Being in IB simply means that you did well on ONE TEST and had some pretty good grades (heck they barely even look at the grades). Especially in your year, with the test being multiple choice and all, do you seriously think being able to pass it makes you THAT SPECIAL?

Bajeezus.

Naive little kids.
Ugh.
Honest to god I still believe that success is determined for the most part by your own hard work and dedication. Not the institution. I mean sure it helps but in the end it is up to you.

Not to say I'm not an elitist sometimes. I definitely have moments when my ego gets the best of me.
(I mean come on, the labs we do are sometimes even beyond first year uni level)

But it really annoys me when people are just so excessively elitist.

SEMI! Was pretty good :) It was def worse than last year :( The hall was smaller this year (they used a diff section of the place) and the DJing was JUST as bad LOL. Potatoes were better. Chicken was worse. Dancing (as expected) was more crowded. But we got better pictures! And the photobooth was super cool :)

I tried the Balea purifying facial mask (form Shoppers) last night

and I must say it works wonders!

Recently my face has sort of broken out from the new cleanser my mom bought me (I was actually uber sad because it was shiseido and it smells amazing). But the Balea mask as awesome :) It smells good as well and I loved peeling it off >=)

So I'm still trying to decide what dress I should wear :S

Got through this week in one piece :)

PHEWWWWwww

So I had a talk with Mr. Croswell yesterday about how worried I was about my future (undergrad nerves)
Here's what I got out of it:
1. There is always more than one path to something (NOT JUST MAC HEALTH SCI...)
2. If you don't get it the first time. Just try again next year, and then the next, and then the next....Because if you truly want something you will get it. It's just a matter of when.
3. I'm way too hard on myself
And I totally agree with all of the above now. I need to loosen up and have some fun. Because
It doesn't get better
And that's the truth.
Even if I become a doctor (heavenly music) I'll have the responsibilities and stress that comes with that.
Plus I'll probably have a family by then
and yeah
Wow.

I'm going to make sure I always visit this awesome history teacher of mine :')

Jenny's sleepover was oodles of fun :D
Late night (we stayed up till 5:30) conversations
Enjoying (and sometimes cringing at) our own cooking
Very little camwhoring (surprise surprise!)
I'm actually so lucky to have such close friends that I can relate to :')

So this morning Sarah left super early and the rest of us sort of lazed around till 9:30 ish and then went downstairs to make breakfast.

The pancakes started off terribly. My first attempt looked amazingly similar to a pale dead gerbil. Ew.
Jenny and Justine's were much...more ...edible.
So yeah I think I might be sick from the pancakes even though Justine and Jenny ended up eating most of my...gerbil.

I attempted to make scrambled eggs next but somehow managed to add a few sprinkles too many of salt.Ehehe. At least it LOOKED good.
Jenny's bacon was awesome :')

After bidding Jenny goodbye, Justine and I missioned to McDonalds where I got an Orange Pekoe tea. SO YUMMY!
Shouldn't have gotten cream though. ewwwwwwww

While I was waiting at the bus stop after bidding Justine goodbye, my email on my ipod randomly updated with the McDonald's wifi (It's good enough to reach the bus stop ACROSS THE STREET).
It turns out that the majority of my acknowledgement letters from unis arrived last night hehe.
(Mac sent theirs a few days before)

Kay so speaking of universities. I should be working.
On bossing my supplementary.
I called my mom a few minutes ago and she totally freaked me out about how my supp actually needs to be AMAZING.
Must.
Try.
Harder.
Oh my goodness I am actually not trying hard enough.
The next hour will be devoted to hardcoring my supplementary.

Oh and also the Hard Candy Glamofluage concealer :P
Makeup Ally gave it a 4.0 out of 5 so it's really good! It's super pigmented (Y) and I highly recommend it :D

Apparently it can cover tattoos LOL (Sarah winkwink)

My dilemna

Help me out with a decision! (By commenting in the cbox bien sur)
So you know how I was all MACBOOK PRO AND IPHONE for uni?
Well the iphone is settled (yay!)
But my dad is like all
OH GET A THINKPAD since Macbooks are pretty expensive :(
And since he's paying for the laptop portion...
Anyways I was originally planning to just pay for the Macbook with my money (the money that my parents didn't let me touch since like grade 9) but that means having significantly less in my bank account :'(
And I've been hearing things about how Macbooks have compatibility issues all the time since unis have special programs for their courses and whatnot.
UGH
So my mom has suggested that instead, I get the Thinkpad and an ipad. The ipad would be for my classes and my thinkpad would be be for working in my dorm and in the library. Of course, I would also get a wireless keyboard for the ipad to take notes on :) And then transfer these notes to my laptop later.
A plus is that the ipad is super light, and I've read many articles about how people find it better to use than a laptop in lectures and stuff.
Oh and I can also download all my textbooks as ebooks on it to save me space and be environmentally friendly!
But at the same time, transferring shiz between an ipad and thinkpad will be quite a hassle. Even if I use iCloud
or dropbox:S
ARGH
And the thinkpad is super ugly...even though it's really reliable and GOOD. Apparently it's the only one approved by some American space association for use in space?
LOL
I still want my Macbook :'(

So if any of you are willing to fork over the $1200+ for one, please let me know.

Dreams and motivation and things~

So this weekend has started off pretty well :)
I actually got quite a but of work done today, which means that I get to spend the rest of the weekend doing university applications <3

Hope this blogging break doesn't break my productivity streak x3

I came up with the idea of motivating myself to get things done early when I read this Reader's Digest article about how to prevent procrastination. One of the tips suggested that I get a friend to do broadcast or do something about me that I wouldn't agree with, if I didn't finish something by a certain time( the article suggested I send a cheque to a company I disapproved of but I don't have that sort of money...or a chequing account for that matter).
I asked Jason to post something embarrassing about me at MIDNIGHT if I don't finish my Chemistry buffer lab by then. :)

It seems to be working so far; almost done my DCP!:D

Oh and by the way, my midterm marks came in :P
So it was alright...my chem mark could have been higher. I really wanted at least a 96:\
But alas...
My top 6 average is currently 95.17%

I seem to have either misplaced my AED card or have given it to the pool already.
Which is so troubling.
The problem is that when I lose something, I end up stressing about it to the point that I dream about it at night. Yeah not a good habit for sure.
So anyways I'm printing my online qualifications list to bring in and letting my supervisor know about my dilemma.

On a happier note,

I got this awesome eyeliner and eyebrow pencil from Wet n Wild :) --> Color icon in Taupe

You'd think that lower end drugstore products have low quality but I actually adore everything about this pencil <3

The colour is nice (Taupe!)

The consistency is awesome (creamy but not too creamy)

Annnnd it's super long so it'll really last me a while!

The only downside is that i have to sharpen it

So I'm thinking that I should go buy more to stock up. It's really becoming a staple!

I think I might start making a habit of doing MCAT questions for fun.

Being one of those people who take ages to digest stuff, I need the early start :)

The verbal reasoning section is apparently an area of weakness for most so I should probably focus on that.

So I'm sick for the first time this school year :(

Yesterday I was chilling with Justine and Amin at McDonalds before band when I started to feel the first bits of fever coming on...
It was actually really funny how it happened but basically i was teaching a pre-school class on Sunday and when I picked a kid up from his front float, he SNEEZED IN MY FACE D::::
Obviously I ducked under water immediately in an attempt to reduce my chances of getting sick but alas that was in vain.
And now I am chilling in my bathrobe at home with my humidifier, tissues, and trusty ole fish oil.

Sigh.

So basically this all helped me realize a couple of things.

Taken from my mom and my history teacher...

Take care of yourself!
Your health always comes first so make sure to get your sleep, nutrients, water,and exercise!
I honestly can't believe how easy it is for myself and others to forget about personal health when trying to succeed.

Take care of your liver. It's the second biggest organ in your body and most chronic conditions are linked to it.So drink water, reduce saturated fats, and stay away from tylenol and SALT D:
Take walks and make sure you exercise! It helps you focus too :D
SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP.
Stop procrastinating. It causes stress and almost always, lack of sleep. D:
More: blueberries, apples, spinach, and cranberries :)
Drink more water --> I tend to neglect this which is probably why my face is so round from water retention >.<
Laugh more --> it releases endorphins, which makes you feel good!

Realization

I realize who my true friends are now. Not just the ones that start conversations but rather ones that genuinely care for you.
Some of the things my friends have done in the recent past have brought tears to my eyes (I'm a tad embarrassed to admit this>.< LOL such a softie :'P)
Sure you can say that you're great friends because you share interests and hobbies, or that your personalities compliment each other etc etc but the true measure of friendship is whether or not you stick around for one another when the going gets hard. REALLY stick around.
Not just how much fun you have together
or how many secrets you share.
Although those do matter!
But seriously.

And then there are those that seem to be selfless and giving when in fact they are simply there for their own personal gain.
Honestly. Grow up.

Don't sprout your bull crap about preaching the truth when you don't even know what you're like yourself.

*passive aggressive wooooooooot*

And I also realized that changing yourself is very very hard.
But then, why would I want to change myself for others?
LOVE THYSELF
You don't have to love me. I've got that covered.
(Can't believe I needed 17 years to figure that out.)

Chlorine

Done my second day at the job! Today was a lot better :) Much less freaking out and I felt a lot more organized :3 Although my lesson plan was pretty useless after a while LOL
w/e
The kids were pretty good today. The uncooperative ones from last week were a bit better although I was pretty disappointed that the cute little Russia kid in my tiny tots started crying at one point:( I guess he thought the big pool was too cold. Pooey.)
Oh yeah and none of them can really swim. Hahaha (in fact, one girl was so scared of me letting go of her that she almost ripped off the goggles hanging from my neck *life flashes before eyes*
It was intense.)

And for those beautiful beautiful concerned individuals out there, my shingles are getting better :DThey should be gone in a week :) (I really had no idea that they were a big deal until the pharmacist freaked out on me yesterday...)

So yeah back to work :S

Which means anti virals for a week X(

Last week was moderately tiring. I got a total of 12 hours of sleep from Wednesday to Friday...ouch.
But today managed to catch me up xP
Although I did have AED training at 8:30 which was a draaaaag.
But on the bright side, I saw Stephanie again!
Wish she had facebook :P

Anyways
This weekend will be pretty busy :P I have my job tomorrow at the pool
(which by the way is going pretty well =D)
and then an Ingeniosity meeting on Monday :3

On a side note, I'm starting to get irritated by people who lack originality and must resort to copying YOUR IDEAS instead of making an effort to come up with some of their own. Honestly sooo irritating.
But then again, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

Oh and my history teacher is on a mission to make sure I don't spend all my life working on school stuff.

But yeah I totally agree that one can't just look forward to things in the belief that things will get better...so yeah :) I'm trying out optimism and a good attitude for a change XD

I GOT MY EARS PIERCED AT LAST =)

It's funny how this sort of thing usually comes out of the mouth of a 4th or 5th grader...but yeah whatever =) I GOT THEM PIERCED!!!
And they didn't hurt at all!

The stud is 14k gold and the cut of the Cubic Zirconium insert is a star! =D

I adore them^ ^

And you'll see my wearing them for 6-8 weeks =D

SO the first week of school is officially over!
And I must say, that I really am enjoying grade 12 so far:)
There's so much to do (I worked for 7 straight hours after getting home on the first day)
but I LOVE being kept on my toes :P

And the stress? It's not really stress. I actually really like the feeling of planning, and learning all the time <3

So my classes so far?

Chem- Same old :P Same teacher, same environment. But I'm getting used to the challenging bits of it :)YAY~
Plus, I LOVE self learning chem. Such a challenge :D The idea of studying chem in the library for hours on end is actually...pretty appealing...

English- I LOVE NARUDA. His poetry is sooo beautiful <3
And yeah class is pretty awesome :) Even though Mr. E is new to teaching IB, his noobness is not blatantly obvious. So far ;)

History- OMG I LOVE OUR HISTORY TEACHER. Mr. Croswell's way of teaching is awesommmmmmee. I'm ACTUALLY excited about history :O Which has not happened since...-ever.

LUNCH- LOL I;m glad everyone has fourth period now! YAY

Biology- Very chill and easy. YAY :)

Other things?

I had skill training at Elgin CC yesterday. It was actually so fun! There were so many people there ...close to 90 :O CRAZYYYY
And yeah I passed the skills ,thank the deities:) I was so nervous about PIA because my partner was heavier than I was used to (very little) but thankfully I didn't fail :) YAY
Monday is the new staff orientation :D I GET MY LIFEGUARD UNIFORM HORRAH
Oh and yeah if any of you are signing up for swimming lessons, sign up for Sunday mornings at Richvale ;)
I instruct then!!!
